Our team has been away from Maldives portal project for a long duration. The project was virtually halted and lacked any remarkable updates during the past 3 month’s time. We have no excuse other than that we have been busy with our personal and official stuffs. But day in and day out we have tried to make this work with no luck due to other unavoidable circumstances.

During the past we had worked on exploring the potentials of the flickr API. Nattu had developed two interfaces to showcase the photographs tagged as ‘Maldives’ and photographs by the members of the unique Maldives groups. Both the application will be officially released soon. We have once again initiated the work of the long awaited wallpaper module and expecting it to be completed in the coming week. We have noticed that there has been a large number of signups to our beta testers. We will not let you down this time. Expect a huge treat from us soon.

That’s how we want it to be. We want every one to anticipate this even when they don’t know what it is. We want the curiosity to be there. but since we have had lots of similar comments id like to explain you a little about Maldives portal.

We have a well planed and developed concept for Maldives portal. We are trying to make our online experience more interactive. As u might have noticed we have a lot of bloggers (nearly 700 blogs registered in mvblogs.org and more which isnt listed), there are around 13,000 or so users who are registered in different forums, there are around 150 professional photographers on flickr, and not to forget all the registered members at vast number of friends networking communities, all these counts are just Maldivian’s. This represents that we have a huge online community. The best part is these are not only people who just wonder around in the Internet without interaction. These are contributors to the world wide web. Web 2.0 and 3.0 (second and third generation of Internet) is the age where the web is developed by the users. Comments, contributions and what we call social networking is the root of Internet today.

Maldives.net.mv (Maldives portal) intends to use the web 2.0 and 3.0 concept and make use of the maldivian Internet contributors in to contributing, using a dedicated project to develop the Maldives, to advertise it, to surface and explore the exquisite of Maldives and its uniqueness, to change the online experience of Maldivians, those interested tourists looking for a vacation spot, corporations willing to invest in Maldives, and all those people looking for a difference in their daily routine. To achieve this the project would dedicate in providing multi varieties of services.

I am sure still you wouldn’t have guessed what we are planing to bring to our users. I think at this time its best for you to stay back and anticipate this . I could tell you that our first module will provide wallpapers by Maldivian professional photographers. We do have confirmation from 10 photographers that they would contribute to us. Another project planned out is Maldivian web directory, some apps targeting the bloggers, and more; not to worry cause one or the other app would definitely be targeted to you. We wish to cover all genre of people by the end of this project but the thing is we still don’t see an end for this project. Hehehe. What we know is this would be a diverse online atmosphere with a sensational experience.

We are now almost finished with our first module on Maldives portal. The title of this article is the theme for this module. As you might have guessed by now, we are currently working on a wallpaper module. This module would be dedicated to provide high quality desktop wallpapers by Maldivian photographers. We have now 10 professional photographers willing to contribute their content as a start off for this project.

All work on database and the layout design is now completed. A major part of coding is also finished at this time simultaneously we are currently working on finishing the landing page, TOC and fine tuning the application. We expect a working beta of wallpaper module to be released by the end of this month.

Our team has been in a busy routine during the past weeks and still is. Exams, Office shifting, and Official Projects kept us away from Maldives portal. We are still struggling to find time for this project; nevertheless we are contributing the little time we have got to the development of Maldives portal. Our first working beta would be released within a very short period of time.

In the past we have worked with developing more ideas and are concentrating on making a concrete foundation. We assure a well loved platform for our users. We hope you all put up with this delay and stick with us.

We initiated beta signups on Maldives portal at 19:00 15th March 2007 and we received 63 beta signups by 19:00 16th March 2007 and signups are still climbing the ladder. We are pretty excited that we received more than 50 signups within 24 hour period. This really shows that there are a lot of people out there who are anticipating Maldives Portal. This gives us more strength and a lot more hope that this project could be a huge success. We assure you all that we would definitely deliver a system beyond what you are anticipating. And we are confident that with the help of you all we could deliver a greater application.

To perfect the Maldives portal project we have decided to follow a beta period of minimum one month for each separate application we launch. And during this period we would very much need the support of beta testers (that is YOU) testing our applications on different platforms and environment, suggesting modifications and perfections and kewl ideas and almost any kind of feedback and critique. We will always accept comments by our users and at all times we work in making this project a huge success and very much user friendly.

The idea of Maldives.net.mv has been running for quite sometime, however the original colors started to form up recently. We introduced a splash page since 15^th February 2007 and na2 started the rough sketch of the project. Shared this idea with smoothdv , intox and afu who got interested and volunteered full support. With the help of mindjet application in a small time a mind map was drawn and the team first met up on the 1^st of March 2007. At this meeting we decided that the blog needs to be online soon and discussed various kewl applications and elaborated the currently built up mind map. On the 2^nd of March our development blog was launched. It was then decided that we would be very much interactive with our users and keep our users updated on the project. Hence updates of what and all we are working out will be summarized on these weekly round-up in the blog. And instant updates on specific cases will be seen frequently.

On the 03^rd of March once again the team met online (instant messaging is really convenient). Tasks were delegated to everyone and deadlines were set for some of them. At the mean time an online mind map was drawn using mindmeister and much detailed map was developed by the collaboration of everyone. First beta of the online web directory of Maldives is targeted to be launched on the 1^st of April and a 2 weeks beta period is scheduled. A corporate identity will be archived by 10^th March 2007 also the logo be finalized by 06^th of March 2007. You could be expecting to see our logo on the 10^th of March or sooner than that.

We are now developing the database and compiling the admin section and user management interface. also we working on the GUI of the web application.
